Dr. Waraich Opens Gastroenterology Practice in Aiken

Afsar Waraich, MD, recently opened his Aiken practice, Palmetto Gastroenterology & Hepatology, at 103 Gregg Avenue.

A gastroenterologist is a physician with dedicated training and unique experience in the management of diseases of the digestive systems. They receive specialized training in doing endoscopies and colonoscopies.

The most critical emphasis during training for gastroenterology and also during practice is attention to detail and incorporation of comprehensive knowledge of the entire gastrointestinal tract to provide the highest quality of endoscopy and consultative services. The final product is a highly trained specialist with a unique combination of broad scientific knowledge, general internal medicine training, superior endoscopic skills and experience, and the ability to integrate their experience to provide optimal healthcare to patients.

Waraich is a board certified gastroenterologist and has practiced gastroenterology in South Carolina for 20 years. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.

Palmetto Gastro & Hepatology specializes in managing all forms of gastrointestinal problems and GI procedures, especially screening, pre-emptive and corrective procedures such as Colonoscopy, Endoscopy and ERCP. Waraich has a special interest in treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease / Ulcerative Colitis), Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, prevention of Colon Cancer, Hepatitis C and management of cirrhosis.

    The study of the gastrointestinal organs and diseases relating to them. This includes any part of the digestive tract from mouth to anus, liver, biliary tract, and the pancreas. Studies in this area include: constipation, Crohn’s disease, diarrhea, gall bladder disease, heartburn, hemorrhoids, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), ulcers, liver disease, stomach cancer, and others.
