Georgia banker to head American Bankers Association

Dan Blanton, the president and chief executive officer for Augusta-based Georgia Bank & Trust, was elected vice chairman of the national banking organization Tuesday at its annual convention in New Orleans, meaning he will be chairman-elect next year and chairman in 2015, reports The Augusta Chronicle.

Blanton was elected to the association’s board of directors in 2010 and has been a member of its Community Bankers Council since 2004, the paper said.

Jeff Plagge, the president of Northwest Financial Corp. in Iowa, will serve as theAmerican Bankers Association’s chairman in the coming year. The chairman-elect isJohn Ikard, president of FirstBank Holding Co. in Colorado.
