Grocery Store to Offer Game Day Discounts to Spirited Fans
A grocery store that is relatively new to the Augusta area has named itself “Georgia’s gameday stock up shop” ahead of next week’s national championship game between the Georgia Bulldogs and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Lidl, a Germany-based grocer that opened its first two locations in the area in September, is offering 10 percent discounts to shoppers who wear University of Georgia attire to the grocery store’s Alexander Drive location on game day, which is on Monday, Jan. 8. Alcohol and gift cards will not be discounted.
“To celebrate Georgia’s National Championship appearance this Monday, we’re excited to push our already low prices even lower for our UGA fans in Augusta,” said Will Harwood, Lidl’s Director of Communications.
A single piece of attire will be enough for shoppers to get the discount, but Lidl is encouraging customers to go a little further. Shoppers donning the most creative outfits throughout the day will be featured on Lidl’s Facebook page.
Lidl’s food truck will also make also be making trips around Augusta with free food Monday evening, including free hot dogs at Lidl at noon and a stop at Savannah River Brewing Company’s watch party at game time (8 p.m.).
