Augusta Named South’s “Mid-Market of the Year” by Magazine
Just a day after his appearance on the Buzz on Biz radio program—Walter Sprouse and his team at the Economic Development Authority received some good news.
On Wednesday, July 26th, Southern Business & Development magazine named Augusta to the South’s top honor as the best “Mid-Market of the Year” in 2017.
In 2015, the magazine named Augusta as one of the “Ten Sizzling Mid-Market Economies” in the South.
Michael Randle, Publisher of Southern Business & Development, says Augusta garnered the top spot after based on strong recruitment efforts for new jobs and investments.
“Throughout the South, there are communities on the move, where cities’ economic growth and development are outpacing the rest of the country,” Randle said. “Augusta is one of these cities, with the Augusta Economic Development Authority leading the way.”
Unisys, EdenCrete, Jacobsen Turf, Textron Specialized Vehicles and the Army Cyber Command at Fort Gordon have chosen to relocate to Augusta. Automatic Data Processing, Standard Aero, Starbucks, and Solvay also expanded in Augusta.
Rounding out the top five were Brevard County, Florida; Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina; Montgomery, Alabama; and Spartanburg, South Carolina—all of which, with the exception of Spartanburg, are metro areas comparable to or larger than that of Augusta.
