Theatre Convention, Others Boost Local Economy
Conferences will be the big draw for visitors to Augusta in October.
The Augusta Visitors & Convention Bureau and the Augusta Sports Council estimate an economic impact of nearly $3 million by visitors to the area in October.
The biggest single event will be the 52 annual Georgia Theatre Conference Oct. 12-15, which is expected to at $688,000 to the area. The National Wild Turkey Federation Leadership Conference, held at the same time, will add $377,000. The two events combine for about 1,900 visitors.
The 57th annual conference for Auxiliaries and Volunteers of the Georgia Hospital Association, slated for Oct 24-26, is estimated to add $302,000 to the economy.
The biggest sporting event is the Georgia State Junior Fall Open Championships this coming weekend at the Newman Tennis Center. It is expected to have an economic impact of $242,000.
