Sports Will Drive Visitor Spending in May
Sports will again have a huge impact on the area economy in May.
The Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Augusta Sports Council project that direct visitor spending in the CSRA in May will be almost $4.2 million.
Four sports events – soccer, basketball, track and the Georgia high school golf championships – will account for more than $2.5 million of that total. A meeting of retired teachers and a weight loss meeting will make up another $1 million in visitor spending.
The total estimated economic impact is calculated based on research commissioned by both the Georgia Department of Economic Development and Destination Marketing Association International in conjunction with globally recognized research vendors, the U.S. Travel Association and Tourism Economics.
