Team Lean Participants Lose More than 11,000 Pounds

Part of the CSRA is lighter by more than five tons.

The Family Y of Greater Augusta celebrated the conclusion of its seventh annual Team Lean competition on Saturday, April 19 at the Family Y of Downtown Augusta. This 12-week, city-wide weight loss competition saw more than 1,390 people participating this year, losing a total of 11,597 pounds.

This year’s competition reached a remarkable milestone for the cumulative numbers of Team Lean. Since the start of Team Lean in 2008, 100,478 pounds have been lost by participants, making the CSRA a healthier community.

“At the Y, we support healthy living and we love to be a part of the life-changing success of our participants each year,” said Janet Thornburg, Community Health Director for the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta.

The winners from this year’s competition include:  First-Place Female, Jennifer Bernstein; First-Place Male, Ken Warner; First-Place Male Team, The Chubbs – Anthony Coleman, Paul Coughlan, Andrew Knox Jr. and Peter Evans; First-Place Female Team, Diva Fit – Shuwayne Jimperson, Rashanda Jimperson, Monique Staples and Tracy West; First-Place Coed Team, Beast – Myron Newton, Evelyn Newton, Donald Catlett and Angelica Catlett; First-Place School Team, Cedar Ridge Elementary (back-to-back winners); and First-Place Church Team, Wrens Church of God. The Corporate Cup Challenge was won by Augusta Metro Credit Union for the second straight year.

The sponsors for this year’s competition included Humana, Doctors Hospital, Coca-Cola, The Augusta Chronicle, Skirt Magazine, WAFJ, WBBQ and WJBF. Cumulatively, the sponsors’ teams lost a total of 972 pounds in this year’s Team Lean competition.
