The Willcox Voted No. 3 Among Best Hotels in the South
Under a photo of a room photographed with glass doors open to a colorful veranda overlooking the lushness of Colleton Avenue, the magazine wrote: “Snowbird Yankees first flocked to the Winter Colony’s warmth in 1900, and over a century later, the Gilded Age lives on in “a beautiful, historic, and very personal hotel.”
The hotel was given an overall score of 95.2
“We are so gratified by the recognition of Conde Nast Traveler members,” said Willcox Co-Owner Geoff Ellis. “Once again they have also praised the beautiful and so charming city of Aiken, S.C., and, of course, this is a thrilling testament to the dedication our staff shows every day with every visitor.”
“The Conde Nast Traveler members have honored us before and once again, my wife,Shannon, and I feel a humility and the responsibility of being the next steward in the 116-year life of this beautiful and welcoming hotel,” Ellis said.

The magazine’s User Rating of 92.342 for The Willcox followed only the 92.607 of the River Inn of Harbor Town in Memphis, Tenn., and the No. 1 ranking of 94.417 awarded Old Edwards Inn and Spa in Highlands, N.C.
Although there were nine hotels in South Carolina listed as being voted as among the 45 Best Hotels in the South, all of the others are in Charleston. Conde Nast Travelers voted Charleston as the Best City in the United States and rated Charleston as No. 2 in the world.
