Bridgett Williams, who became an interim morning anchor at WKMG-Channel 6 in June, now officially has the job, the station announced today.
“She has done a terrific job sitting in as co-anchor on the Local 6 Morning News and has become an important morning news team member,” WKMG General Manager Skip Valet said in a statement. “So we asked her to make the job permanent.”
Williams joined WKMG in September 2010. She has anchored weekend morning newscasts and reported for evening newscasts. Before joining WKMG, Williams worked as an anchor and reporter at the NBC station in Augusta, Ga.
She stepped into the weekday morning job at WKMG after Laura Diaz left the CBS affiliate and the business.
Williams has been working with Matt Austin, who joined WKMG in June.  He replaced Erick Weber, who left the station to take a morning anchor job at New England Cable News in Boston.
The morning team also includes traffic reporter Jessica Sanchez and meteorologist Troy Bridges.

Editor’s Note: The anchor team that once led WAGT in the right direction is all going in different directions.  Jeff Rucker opens Mathnasium in December, Stan Byrdy continues to work on book and film projects, Trent Butler is anchoring FOX News in Greenville with a year left on his contract and has aspirations of returning to Augusta if possible. Congratulations to Bridgett Williams with her new gig in Orlando!

  1. Hi Jeff! We’re glad to work together! It’s fun for Bridgett and me to talk about our time in the CSRA, even though we weren’t there at the same time. I’m a little older. Ha! It’s hard to wrap my mind around the fact that I left WRDW-News 12′s Morning News waaaaayyyyy back in 2001. It’s good to stumble onto this site. I’ll always love Augusta. Is the “Boll Weevile Cafe” still there? I loved that place.
